Orange Cone Sunrise

Consistently unreal snow conditions for the past week or so. Not much vis, so not many photos. Here's a couple from this morning's mission on the cone very nice light, that lasted these few minutes all day, then it was back to snowing again 2-4 Feet on the way!

Opening Day Coneage & The Dirkson Derby

Starting Line for the Dirkson Derby course
"Ghetto Downhill" course - turn 1

This shot of Tapper on the cone sums up the opening day at the B. Fun turns a plenty, but lots of places with absolutely no base underneath the fresh. Buyer beware, and let's all hope for more snow again this week to bury the lurking rocks and trees.

I was there - Opening day at Bridger Bowl, MT

I was three chairs behind these guys - They drank PBR and were generally stoked and rowdy for first tracks. http://www.bridgerbowl.com/mediagallery/dailyvideo/2008/12/11/

Big Sky for First (lift served) Tracks of the year!

Here is some shots of the goods in Montana. The first is the one of the first tracks I layed down as the chair goes by. Here's a taste of the terrain, some of which was not yet open, frustraing me greatly. A-Z chutes, hikeable from the base of the tram Big Couloir, double diamonds from the top of the tram After taking a harder look at the terrain that was open, and checking the wise advice at the top of the lift, I decided to take their advice, and keep myself stoked, without breaking anything important... More video to follow when after I catch opening day at Bridger Bowl tomorrow, then head home...

Video Recap from Last year's snow season

Here's some video from last year's attempt on Pilot Butte - Scotty G and I hit it up on one of the snowiest days last January. I'm just killing time while I wait for the snow to hit...

Surfing Lake Powell..

yes, it's good fun to work the endless wave in 85 degree water behind the boat. Our crew was a little heavy on teenagers, though, and they managed to take over the boat the first couple of nights. Everyone ended up having a good time, and we went to Rainbow Bridge to check out the arch. Here's a couple more photos, until I get the rest up on Flicker and add a link here...

Hole in My Life

Elvis Costello and The Police played to 12,000 of us dedicated fans at the gorge last weekend. Here's video from earlier in the tour of "Hole in my Life", one of the best songs of the night! Speaking of a "Hole in my Life, the new boat arrives tomorrow - Should be a fun "hole" to throw money and time at. Here's to wake-surfing in the Central Oregon Sunshine!! While at the Gorge, we got an after-concert drop-off at the Vantage Climbing Area just outside the concert Venue: some chill climbing in "Kook Canyon" ensued the next morning...

A Surfer Dad's Proudest Moment

Here's a video of my son, gettting pushed into his first wave at my old "home break" of Scotsman's Cove, in So. Cal. There was an incredible run of surf last week, and although I only got a few waves during my recent trip, this day will live in my memory forever... Surfer Magazine has more detail on the recent string of great So. Cal South Swell here: more great photos on the surf can be found here...

REAL ski resorts re-open in June...

Here's to Willamette Pass, which re-opened last weekend, for some late-season turns. We hit it up Saturday from 9-2:30, and it was pretty fun! Imagine Mt. Bachelor making a decision like this.....

45 degrees (the angle, not the temp) on N. Sister!

Went up on N. Sister - E. Face / NE Ridge with Seth today. Lots of good turns from about 8900' on down to the snow line, then a long hike out. Good stuff!

October to June - Two Cone perspectives

This was from my first day of the season - Good Cone laps were had on October 4th, 2007
After so many great days, the end of Mt. Bachelor's 'season' came and went, and then I ventured up today, June 7, 2008, and the Cone STILL has great snow - the choice tracks on the right were Brooks and I hitting up some nice new pow on top of corny snow! Looks like snow season might be back in this coming week.

There's still more snow than they have had on several openings in November, and I can still remember riding laps on Summit chair in June, back in the old days when I first moved to Bend.

Now it's a ghost town:

Here's a couple more for ya...

WOW - April was another month of "Real Winter"!

...and it just keeps coming! Check out this forecast for tonite (almost the end of April!)

Here's some footage of a couple of friends riding the goods on Northwest Chair last week - You might recognize the one guy - apparently he's a famous surfer, author, and Patagonia ambassador - A nice guy, and a hell of a hiker. At 60 years old, he lead us to some of the best lines of fresh pow of the season.

Ball Butte Fresh Lines

Here's the colonel, settting up...for a great pow slash..... Snow conditions were pretty stable, but the colonel did manage to set a little slide off on his big drop.....
A very rewarding trip, especially since it was yet another bluebird day that POWDR / Mt. Bachelor couldn't get the summit open for the fresh goods.

It's also nice to stay out till the sun drops....
